Enhancing Counter UxV Capability: Countering unmanned air, surface and ground platforms (C-UxV) at extended ranges

Whether for air, land or sea, unmanned and autonomous platforms and vehicles – also known as UxV – have rapidly become prevalent in applications related to Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) activities and as payload carriers to provide offensive military capability. Their low cost, operational flexibility and unmanned capabilities make them ideal for accomplishing tasks in high risk areas.

A comprehensive Counter-UxV solution consists of two layered protection methods to provide DEFEAT effects:
1. Border / Defined Perimeter Protection

Protecting a defined area such as a national border, or perimeter around a ship / critical infrastructure (e.g., airports)

The Directional RF Transmit (Tx) element of the overall C-UxV solution consists of one or more antenna CCU assemblies positioned on the platform or around the location, and has a directional antenna with associated positioner.

Once a UxV threat has been detected and located (eg by our RFaaS or CEMA VIK solutions), the optical switching functionality enables the selection of the most appropriate antenna, which is aimed at the threat, so a targeted DEFEAT effect with minimal collateral disruptions and maximised engagement range can be triggered.

2. Individual Platform / Location Protection

Protecting an individual platform such as a vehicle, ship, or a location such as a HQ building

The Omni-Directional RF Transmit (Tx) element of the overall Counter-UxV solution consists of one or more antenna CCU assemblies positioned around the platform/location for complete coverage, taking into consideration any blocking structures such as other buildings or ship masts.

If a number, or swarm of UxV threats are detected (eg by our RFaaS or CEMA VIK solutions), the lossless splitting functionality sends the Tx signal to all antenna CCU assemblies, providing an immediate DEFEAT effect that completely encompasses the platform / location. This provides protection from any UxV attacking for any path.

PPM Systems: proven COTS-based solutions

We have in-service incumbency – with a NATO ally – of an RF DEFEAT system that allows EW operators to DEFEAT class 1-3 unmanned and autonomous platforms (UxV), be they AIR, SEA or LAND delivered and agnostic to the DETECT – IDENTIFY – LOCATE aspects of the system.

The complete system provides both directional and omni-directional RF Tx, and is modular and scalable to incorporate existing capabilities and provide either/or both together.
